Position: Instrumentation and Controls Technologist

Job Summary

You will work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team to develop products and systems for a wide range of industries. Your primary role will be to assist in the design and programming of control systems, troubleshooting, wiring and testing, and commissioning. You will also assist in the development of electronic products generally. Based in our Ottawa office, some travel, primarily in Canada and USA, may be required.


  • Assisting in the design of automation / control systems
  • Programming PLCs and HMIs
  • Drafting electrical schematics, control panels, etc,
  • Test and troubleshooting control systems.
  • Assembly / wiring and installation of equipment
  • Assembly / rework electronic assemblies.
  • Assembly / rework PCBs, control panels, test jigs, etc.
  • Direct contact with clients.
  • Other duties as required.


  • 5+ years experience with automation / control systems
  • 5+ years experience and with programming PLCs and HMIs.
  • 2+ years experience of AutoCAD – Electrical schematics, Control panels, GAs, etc.
  • Technologist Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Robots, etc or equivalent.
  • Experience of electronic assembly and test is desirable.
  • Proficient in written and spoken English. French desirable.
  • Eligible for Government of Canada security clearance.
  • Prepared to travel.
